PALM BAY, FL/LAKE MOHAWK (MALVERN, OH) - Dr. Helen Gay Fawcett, beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and educator, died suddenly on November 22, 2024, after a brief bout with leukemia.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, John; her children, Chris (Melinda) Fawcett, and Jonathan (Lisa) Fawcett, as well as grandchildren, Elijah and Lily Fawcett.
Gay, as she was known by everyone, grew up Massillon, Ohio. After high school, she obtained both a Bachelor's and Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Akron.
Because of her love of young children, she started her career teaching kindergarten while later moving to first and third grades. Eventually, she moved into administrative positions, primarily as curriculum director, where she felt that she could make a bigger impact by teaching teachers. This experience led her to obtain a Doctorate in Education from Kent State University.
Gay was a highly respected educator and published author. As a prolific writer, she authored or co-authored numerous books and professional articles. There are countless testimonies of how she inspired or changed the course of teachers and students alike.
She was always up for an adventure, would jump at the chance to travel, and excitedly faced experiences many would not consider. Some of her favorite trips included an African safari, visiting the Galápagos Islands, and several trips to Yellowstone and Utah, all with her immediate family, making them that much more special. She worked with the People-to-People program for several years to travel the world chaperoning school children.
She was the most beautiful soul who embodied the most beautiful form of love. She was always so full of laughter and joy that it could change the mood of anybody she was around.
