Redmon Funeral Home ~ Celebration of Life on behalf of Mr. Albert (Al) Frank

STOW - Albert Frank, age 92, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2024, at his home in Stow, Ohio.

Born in Laage, Germany on October 15, 1931, Al lived a life that truly earned him the moniker of "The Most Interesting Man in the World.” Al Frank was intelligent, hard-working, and a principled man. His humor was understated, yet always on point. Al was elegant, had beautiful blue eyes, and was a very kind and very interesting person to spend time with and converse. Family and friends often commented that the handsome, sophisticated and seemingly well-travelled actor for the Dos Equis Mexican beer commercials was Al's doppelganger. A life-sized cutout of the "Most Interesting Man in the World" character was given to Al's family by a restaurateur upon seeing Al next to the cutout.

Al is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl, whom he met in 1979, and married in 1986. Over the last 45 years, they built a life together gardening, working on improving their home . . . which Al jokingly referred to as "their Estate" . . . shopping for trees, plants, flowers, and water features for the "Frank Botanical Garden", traveling to Germany and Europe as often as they could, and entertaining family, friends, neighbors and visitors, from all walks of life. One of Al's greatest gifts of time was sharing fascinating stories of his life in Germany as a child, his coming to America, his pride in becoming a U.S. citizen, and his passion for accepting immigrants and other cultures, including hosting exchange students from Brazil or Peru, or practicing language skills with a departing Fulbright Scholar going to Germany. He taught himself English by reading the newspaper and understood what courage it takes for people to travel and try to improve themselves and the world they encounter.

Al's career and volunteer work was impressive. He worked for Richard L. Bowen, an engineering and construction firm in Shaker Heights/Cleveland, until he was 77. He was a proud member of the Cleveland Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. Al fully embraced the Rotary motto of "service above self." For example, Al was a volunteer firefighter for the City of Stow and, as an avid and talented skier, he was a member of the National Ski Patrol at Boston Mills, including serving as the Patrol Director for the Friday night team where he did "gift wrapping", (his humorous term for "first aid"), for skiers rescued from all manner of situations on the slopes. Al participated in Mountaineering-winter camping-and earned his National Winter Camping badge. So much life was lived in his 92 years.

Al had a blended family with Cheryl. Their children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces, in-laws, and other family and community members with whom he had a close relationship will miss him terribly. Al's love of family and history, his love of dogs, his love of gardening and nature, his love of country, his quiet humor, his smile and his utter charm will remain vivid in the minds and hearts of anyone who was lucky enough to know Al Frank.

A celebration of Al Frank’s life will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 11 AM at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow 44224, where friends are invited for visitation on Friday from 4 - 6 PM, and on Saturday, from 10 AM, until the time of service.
