Services for Dr. Andrew S. Rancer
STOW - Andrew S. Rancer, Ph.D. passed away April 11, 2024, peacefully in his home.
Andrew was a Professor Emeritus at the University of Akron. Known for his enthusiastic and energetic style, Andrew was an entertaining professor. He worked diligently to engage and instruct his students in areas of communication through humor and discussion.
Throughout his career, Dr. Rancer made significant contributions to the communication field, particularly in argumentativeness. He served as editor of professional journals, authored textbooks as well as numerous research papers and journal articles. His honors include the Eastern Communication Association’s Past Presidents/Officers Award, the Distinguished Research Fellow Award, membership in the ECA’s Committee of Scholars, and received the Eastern Communication Association’s Centennial Scholar in Communication Award.
Andrew was loved by many and will be fondly remembered as a spirited, highly dedicated scholar and teacher, caring friend, and loving husband and father. A scholarship at the University of Akron School of Communication will be established in honor of Dr. Rancer.
He is survived by his wife Kathi; daughter, Aimee (Tom McCormack), of Rhinebeck, NY; sister, Tobi Katz (Mitchell Katz), of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; brother-in law, Todd Dierks (JoAnn Luce), of Bryan, Ohio; nephews, Jonathon Katz (Lindsay), of Jupiter FL, Evan Katz of New York City, and Christopher Dierks (Molly), of Chicago, IL. Andrew was pre-deceased by his father Marcy “Lee” Streicher; mother, Estelle, and stepfather, Jack Rancer.
Services will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 3 PM, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow 44224, where friends may call from 12 noon until service time. If you cannot attend and wish to, a livestream will be available through the Redmon Funeral Home website - redmonfuneralhome.com
