Charles Huel Gunter

SILVER LAKE - Charles Huel Gunter passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 10, 2022.

Huel was born September 26, 1953, in Phenix City, Alabama to Charles and Jean Gunter. He is a graduate of Central High School Class of 1971. On November 24, 1984, he married Barbara Marshall in Columbus, Georgia.

Huel spent 40 years in the electrical utility industry in which time he worked with safety and training in 47 states, 52 countries on six continents. He spent 22 years with live line maintenance and line crew training domestically and internationally. He worked with three of the main PPE manufacturers for the electrical workers, A.B. Chance, White Rubber, and Salisbury.

Huel began his career in 1972, joining the Georgia Power Company as a lineman. In 1984, he joined A.B. Chance as an International Live Line Specialist. While there, he designed and implemented training and safety programs, live line demonstrations, and seminars on live line maintenance worldwide. He conducted the first live line distribution demonstration in the United Kingdom.

In 1993, Huel joined White Rubber, bringing him and his wife, Barbara, to Silver Lake. Huel joined Salisbury in 2006 where he stayed until he retired.

Huel was inducted into the International Lineman's Museum and Hall of Fame in 2012.

After retirement, Huel enjoyed working in the yard and traveling to visit family.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Gunter, daughter, Mason (Macy) Gunter, brother, Brent (Kathy) Gunter, sister, Debra (George) Davis, and many nieces and nephews. Huel is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jean Gunter, and his half-sister Barbara Seivers.

Services will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow 44224. Calling hours are 1:30 to 2:30 PM, with service beginning at 2:30 PM.
