Scott Dubiel

September 17, 1956 — April 17, 2022

D. Scott Dubiel, 65, of Stow, joined our Lord and Savior in heaven on Easter Sunday.

Beloved husband to Becky for 38 years, devoted father to Taylor (Natalie), loving brother to Philip Dubiel (Trish) and Diane Cleavenger (David), and cherished uncle, great uncle and friend to many, Scott touched all those who knew him with his kindness, honesty, humility, and sense of humor.

A devoted Catholic family man, Scott was the happiest with family and friends gathered at his house around the bar telling one of his thousands of jokes. Often laughing too hard to actually make it to the punch line, Scott brought joy to all those honored by his presence. Despite his illness, Scott continued sharing jokes until hours before his death to comfort those he loved.

As a treasured middle school and high school math teacher in Cuyahoga Falls for more than 30 years, Scott used humor through “Joke of the Day” and “Pebbles of Wisdom” to connect with his students and instill meaningful life lessons. Even after retiring, former students regularly sought Scott out to gain their “nugget” for the day. Scott employed this same wit and affable manner to his clients as a realtor for BHHS-Simon and Salhany Realty for the last 27 years.

Growing up on the shores of Lake Erie in Madison, Ohio, Scott loved the water -- swimming, boating, waterskiing, or sailing with friends. He enjoyed spending time on the beach, where he would ultimately sunburn, earning him the endearing nickname “French Fry.” Never losing his youthful spirit for fun, Scott continued to be affectionately known as “French Fry” to childhood friends throughout his life.

After his cancer diagnosis in 2013, Scott was blessed with the gift of seven cancer-free years through a bone marrow transplant. Scott embraced this time traveling and creating cherished memories with Becky, Taylor, family and friends. Always with a smile on his face, he lived each day to spread his gratitude and love of life.

Scott is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Jean Dubiel. He is also survived in death by his four-legged pal, Kirby, who was forever by his side.

A prayer service honoring Scott’s life will be held at 11 AM, Monday April 25th at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 1821 Munroe Falls Avenue, Cuyahoga Falls, 44221.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Scott’s name can be made to St. Eugene’s.
