Obituary of Darlene M. DiCato




STOW - The family of Darlene M. (Welther) DiCato of Stow, Ohio announces her passing on July 5, 2021, at the age of 74 years.

Darlene will be remembered by Edward DiCato, her husband of 21 years; her daughter, Megan (Graham) Tellalian, and son-in-law, Ronnie Tellalian of Parma, Ohio; her brother, Clifford Welther of LaGrange, Ohio. Darlene was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Beatrice (Bolcis) Welther, and her first husband, Ralph Graham.

Darlene was born on June 9, 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio. She attended John Marshall High School in Cleveland, earned a Bachelor of Science in Education at Bowling Green State University, a Master of Arts in Guidance & Counseling at Eastern Michigan University, and a Master of Education in Special Education at Grand Canyon University.

Darlene married Ralph F. Graham on October 25, 1975, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Trenton, Michigan. She then married Edward M. DiCato on February 19, 2000, at Tallmadge Methodist Church in Tallmadge, Ohio.

Darlene was employed as a teacher in Michigan and in Illinois, where she was the learning disabilities specialist at Lakeland College. Most recently, she was employed as an intervention specialist at Roberts Middle School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, from where she retired in 2013.

Darlene was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Stow, Ohio. She gave piano lessons and orchestrated recitals twice each year. She will be remembered for her annual Christmas parties, along with her multitude of themed Christmas trees, as well as her work as a trustee of the John Marshall High School Alumni Association and the reunion committee for the graduating class of 1965, along with her love of genealogy. Darlene and her husband, Edward, enjoyed many years of cruising around the world.

A celebration of Darlene's life will be held July 9, 2021, at 1:00 PM at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, Ohio, with Pastor John Corsi officiating. Friends may call from 11 AM until service time. Interment will follow at Silver Springs Cemetery, located at 5080 Stow Road in Stow, Ohio. Darlene always refused to wear black to funerals and instead wore bright beautiful colors as she believed it should be a true celebration of someone's life. The family asks that you do the same at her services.

The family wishes to thank personal aides Alli & Della, for their gentle care in her final weeks, as well as the staff of Crossroads Hospice.
