Darlene Sue Wells

AKRON - Darlene Sue Wells, 63, died from complications with chronic illness on January 23, 2022.

Born in Youngstown, she was a resident of Akron since 2017. Darlene led a life of service, starting with the care of her mother and aunts. She adored children, especially the "tough ones." She had been employed with Help Me Grow as a family liaison to pregnant mothers, retiring in 2004, after the tragic loss of her husband. She continued to serve others by working for Seniors Helping Seniors and was known as "Grandma" at her apartment complex. Most of all, she adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

Preceded in death by her husband, Gary L. Wells; parents, Chester and Margaret Gerthung, and sister, Janet Parker. She is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Brett) Hetherington; sister, Carole McCartney; brother, David (Joanne) Gerthung, and three grandchildren.

Brett Hetherington will conduct service 6 PM, Tuesday, February 1, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow. Friends may call 4 PM to service time on Tuesday.
