David F. Curtis

November 9, 1938 — April 3, 2022

AKRON - David F. Curtis commenced his inseparable union with his much beloved wife and his God on April 3rd, 2022.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on November 9th, 1938, David was and remained the quintessential Boy Scout throughout his life; curious, open, a keeper of the peace and his word. David graduated from Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School before graduating with honors (Summa Cum Laude) from Case Western Reserve University in Chemical Engineering and Mathematics. David’s involvement in "The Society of Plastics Engineers", employment at Dow Corning, and later, Steere Enterprises, were integral in the creation of several successful patents for injection blow molding. He was an innovator, a builder and “general tinkerer” that enjoyed his work thoroughly until his retirement.

His primary focus then shifted from raising his seven children and globe-trotting for the plastics engineering community, to enjoying time with his grandchildren, performing numerous acts of service, and attempting to edge in two rounds of golf at his beloved Sycamore Golf Course where he taught his children how to play, much to his wife’s dismay and their delight.

David was a firm believer that one must temper the chaos of the world with kindness, remain teachable and grateful, enduring all things. He exemplified these precepts by giving generously of his monies, time, and wisdom he gained throughout his life.  He was a gifted teacher and mentor, actively serving on boards ranging from educational to non-profit and theological sectors. He was not one for accolades, but humble, preferring to lead from the back and lead with love. His most cherished awards were not of the ostensible sort, but that of handwritten ribbons or homemade trophies from his children, grandchildren, and the children he mentored. You could always depend on him to happen upon you with a smile, food in hand, and a word of encouragement before leaving you with a prayer of protection, an “I love you” and “God loves you, too.” He was an illustrator of unconditional love, and we are grateful to have him as long as we did. Well done thou good and faithful servant.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Elaine Curtis; sister, Madeline Paryzek; brother-in-law, George Paryzek; sister-in-law, Pat Walker, and niece, Shelley Bender.

He lives on through his children, Camille Curtis-Schake, Sabrina Wise, Jason (Janice) Curtis, Ryan Curtis, Avril LaPorte, Graham Curtis (Sarah Kierkian), Leah Curtis; grandchildren, Dominic Wise (Breann), Ericka Wise, Brianna Wise, Estella Flynn, Xavier Curtis, Layla Curtis, and Maverick Curtis; great-grandchildren, Gage Wise and Braxton Wise, as well as sibling, William Curtis, and numerous cherished in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 7th from 4 - 6 PM, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, 44224, where a memorial service will follow at 6 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Haven of Rest Ministries at havenofrest.org
