STOW - Deborah Ann Spoerndle, "Debbie", age 71, passed away at Akron City Hospital on April 19, 2022, after a 123-day battle with Covid-19. She was born August 24, 1950, in Pittsfield, MA, to James and Rita Ritchie.
Debbie graduated from Wadsworth High School in 1968, and St. Thomas Nursing School in 1971. After graduation, she worked for St. Thomas and Akron City Hospitals for 44 years. She was married to her husband, Thomas Spoerndle, Sr., on June 21, 1970.
Debbie was an avid Barbie collector. She was president of the Heart of Ohio Barbie Club as well as a member of the Pink Pirates Barbie Club. She co-chaired two National Barbie Conventions and was active on the steering committee for the National Barbie Doll Collectors Convention (NBDCC). Debbie also loved movies of all genres and volunteered many hours at the Cleveland International Film Festival.
Debbie loved to travel. She and Tom took frequent trips and especially enjoyed touring wine country. In the past couple of years, Debbie developed a talent and love of painting that greatly sustained her. Most of all, she found joy in time spent with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved sister, Susan. Debbie is survived by her husband, Thomas Spoerndle, Sr.; daughters, Amanda Curtright (John) of Canton, MI, Kimberly Zura (Stephen) of Parma, OH, and her son, Thomas Spoerndle, Jr., of Brooklynn, NY; plus, her grandchildren, Caroline, Sky, Eli, and Olivia; her brother, Jim Ritchie (Susan), and sister, Sharon Snyder.
Pastor Jim Case will conduct service Saturday, 12:00 noon, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, OH 44224, where friends may call 10:00 AM until service time. The family requests that masks be worn during visitation and services.
