Diana Elizabeth Mascolo

October 27, 1932 — February 24, 2023

SILVER LAKE - Diana Elizabeth Mascolo, 90, died February 24, 2023.

Born in Wheeling, West Virginia, Diana grew up in Martin's Ferry, Ohio and Columbus, Ohio, until moving to Akron in 1948, with her family. She had a lifelong love of learning and attended Columbus East High School and graduated from Our Lady of The Elms High School in Akron. After graduation, Diana became a registered nurse, graduating from the Peoples Hospital School of Nursing and continued her nursing career at the hospital.

Diana married in 1956, and her focus and passion were raising her four children along with her husband, Louis, and spending time with friends and family. She volunteered her time with United Fund and other local charities/organizations throughout the years.

In 1970, the family moved to Silver Lake Village where she enjoyed time at Crystal Lake and meeting new people.

When her husband passed away in 1972, she had the difficult task of being both mom and dad and returned to the workplace to support her family. She worked at Country Place nursing home where she had many friends, including her longtime friend, Jo Marie Fugarino. She retired from her last nursing position at Wayside Farm in 2003.

Diana was a member of Stow Presbyterian Church and loved Jesus!! She was a good listener and very conversational, always willing to help out and give good advice when asked.

She greatly enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, WWII stories and movies, listening to opera (and music in general), Halloween festivities, train travel and beach vacations, but she really loved most of all, her time with her family and friends. She was very generous and so unique. Our friends would come to visit just to see her! Our home was a large gathering place for much of the neighborhood almost daily.

Preceded in death by her husband, Louis Mascolo, Sr.; parents, John and Elizabeth Benchea; siblings, Elizabeth Pfeiffer, Traian Benchea, and John Benchea.

She is survived by her children, Michele (Kevin) MascoIo-Brown, Mike (Barb), Mark (Siv), and Louis (Karen) Mascolo; grandchildren, Tiffany, Trent, Joseph, Alyssa, Ada, Dina, Anna, and Markus; great-grandson, Elliott Brown, and sisters, Roxana Koenig and Sanda Benchea.
