Don Meals

CUYAHOGA FALLS - Donald R. Meals passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022, shortly after his daughter, Kim, told him how much she loved him and was grateful to have him as her father. In addition to his family, Don loved golfing, playing Blackjack at the casino, investing in the stock market, and his dog and companion, Brandy.

Don was an avid golfer, being well known in the golfing community for his skill and talent. He often enjoyed telling the story of being almost late for his wedding because he was playing 18 holes. His family members often ribbed him that he could never remember birthdays or anniversaries, but he could remember all of his golf scores and every course he played. Before suffering a debilitating stroke 20 years ago, he could be found on the golf course just about every day, even during the winter, and if he wasn’t playing, he was watching it on TV. After his stroke, he taught himself to golf using one arm and had a swing that was as powerful as using two arms.

Don was a successful businessman. His lifelong dream was to open a small business, and in 1986, he and his family successfully launched a Mr. Bulky’s store, after Don worked for M&M Mars for many years prior. Don was also a passionate Blackjack player. Nothing could prevent him from going to a casino, not even a pandemic, during which, against others’ advice, he traveled to Las Vegas. As is evident, the common theme is Don exemplified great strength and determination in every area of his life. Most of all, however, Don was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, and friend.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit and Ann Meals; sister, Judy; sons, David and Douglas, and the “love of his life,” his wife, Lynn. He is survived by his daughter, Kim (Janice Jones); grandsons, Daniel Meals and Kyle Meals, (Mary Ann and Sabastian); daughter-in-law, Julie Chapman, and brother-in-law, Dale Groghan, (LoAnn).

The Meals family would like to extend special gratitude to the staff at Maplewood Senior Living in Cuyahoga Falls, who loved and cared for Don, like family, during the five years he resided with them. Their love for him was most recently demonstrated when they created a Casino Night for Don’s 80th birthday on July 14.

Visitation at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow will be held Monday, July 25 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at Stow Cemetery, 3162 Kent Road, Stow at 1:15 PM. The family would like to invite all to join them for lunch, afterward, at Silver Lake Country Club, 1325 Graham Road, Silver Lake 44224.
