Obituary of Douglas Woodrow Santee



Douglas Woodrow Santee, of Stow, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on April 11, 2012 at the Seidman Cancer Center after several weeks of fighting Leukemia.
Born in Akron, Ohio, August 12, 1942, to L. Woodrow and Mildred Santee, Doug graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High in 1961. He went on to serve his community for 31 years as a member of Stow Fire Department. Doug, also known as "Rammer" amongst his fellow firefighters, was one of the first Firefighters in Stow to join the HazMat and EMS squads. He also owned his own business as a Locksmith for over 20 yrs. After retiring from Stow Fire, Doug fulfilled his life-long dream by obtaining his private pilot license.
Doug enjoyed spending his free time driving his '37 Buick to cruise-ins. He was a member of Graham Road Baptist Church in Cuyahoga Falls for 45 years and a member of The Chapel in Akron for over 20 years, where he and his wife Nancy volunteered and served others through outreach programs and hospital visitations. He was also an active deacon, usher and volunteered in the group Abundant Life.
Doug was a loving spouse, father, grandfather and loved by all who were blessed to know him. People best knew Doug as a fun, charming man with a great sense of humor.
Doug is survived by his wife Nancy, his children Scott (Christine) Santee, Sandy (Doug) Weaver, Brian (Shelley) Santee, Kim (Scott) Sisk and Jeff Santee; his grandchildren Andrew, Matt, Katie, Melissa, Tia, Zach, Mikayla, and Jackson and his brother Gary Santee.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, L. Woodrow and Mildred and granddaughter, Lea Santee.
Friends are invited to Redmon Funeral Home for visitation Sunday 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM, where Pastor Steve Bucy will conduct funeral service Monday at 10 AM. Interment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations in Doug's honor can be made to the American Cancer Society's HopeLodge or The Seidman Cancer Center of University Hospitals.
