STOW - Eileen Elizabeth Flanagan was called to eternal life on February 8, 2024, at the age of 94.
Eileen was born May 22, 1929, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late James and Jeanette (Jamison) Monroe. She is survived by her sisters, Jean (Monroe) Boeh, Madelyn (Monroe) Kennedy, and sisters-in-law, Stella Flanagan and Arlene Flanagan. Eileen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Vincent A. Flanagan; her daughter, Joanne (Flanagan) Varga, and her siblings, Lois (Monroe) Black, James Monroe, Jr., Thomas Monroe, Jack Monroe, Edward Monroe, and Robert Monroe
Eileen graduated from St. Raphael High School (Pittsburgh) in 1947. After graduating from high school, she attended Robert Morris University and graduated in1950. During her time in college, Stella Flanagan introduced her to her brother, Vincent. Eileen and Vincent attended the freshman dance at Robert Morris University and from there fell in love and were married June 2, 1951.
Eileen and her husband started their family in Pittsburgh, Pa. They had seven wonderful children: Joanne (Frank) Varga, Nancy (Randy) Wilson, Karen (Enrico) Cappello, Sandra (Randall) Dusdal, Leslie Wheeler, Gary (Christine) Flanagan, and Cathie (Steve) Clark. Their family grew to three generations with 20 grandchildren: Michael Varga, Bryan Wilson, Kelli (Joseph) Miller, Eric (Melissa) Goulette, Sean (Daisy) Cappello, Ryan (Ciara) Cappello, Justin (Melanie) Dusdal, Megan (Kristopher) Kreutzer, Daniel (Taffin) Dusdal, Katie (Alex) Farr, Aimee Wheeler, Brian Flanagan, Kristin Flanagan, Jeffrey Flanagan, Daniel Flanagan, Cathryn Clark (deceased), Melissa Clark, Amanda (Bradley) Nieukirk, Stephanie (Scott) Sowers, Steven (Katie) Clark, and nineteen great-grandchildren: Theo Varga, Hunter Wilson, Harper Wilson, Hayden Wilson, Maxwell Miller, Callie Goulette, Mia Cappello, Isabel Cappello, Brian Dusdal, Allie Dusdal, Camden Kreutzer, Hudson Kreutzer, Cash Dusdal, Peyton Dusdal, Palmer Dusdal, Callen Sowers, Bowen Sowers, Audrey Nieukirk, and Cora Nieukirk.
Eileen also had many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and was involved in their lives as much as possible through the years.
Eileen and her family moved a few times during their marriage as a result of her husband, Vincent’s, promotions at work. The family lived in Syracuse, New York; Fraser, Michigan; Hudson, Ohio; and lastly Stow, Ohio. Eileen made each home special with her unique talent in interior design. She also loved fashion and was always stylishly dressed.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 11, 2024, from 1 - 4 PM, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, 44224. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at 11 AM, at St. Mary Parish, 340 North Main Street, Hudson, Ohio 44236. Burial immediately following at St. Mary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hattie Larlham, 9772 Diagonal Road, Mantua, Ohio 44255.
