Celebration of Life for Dr. Ernie Carnes
HUDSON - Ernest (Ernie) Carnes was born in Akron, Ohio on September 21, 1943, and passed away on March 5, 2025.
His first home was on his family’s farm on Seasons Road in Hudson. Ernie graduated from the University of Akron where he prepared to become a science teacher. His love of his subject and enjoyment as a teacher led Ernie to pursue a PhD in Physics Education. Ernie’s career at Hudson High School spanned 35 years, where he became science department chairperson. He was beloved by his students and known for his humor, quick wit, and of course, the Bullseye Club.
Those who knew Ernie would remember his love of cars as well as boating. While the whole family enjoyed many weekends boating at the lake, Ernie and his son, Russ, most loved spending time together racing up and down the lake trying to be the fastest boat on the lake!
Ernie married Lois Schlossmacher, the love of his life, in 1970. Ernie and Lois had two children, Russ (Sara) and Stacey (Gene). His four granddaughters, Makayla, Reagan, Mia, and Ella were “the bright light” in his life. He spent much of his retirement taking them on adventures around Northeast Ohio.
Ernie served in church leadership positions throughout his life, where his strong faith in Christ remained central to his life. Those who knew Ernie found that his desire for others to know Christ was shared through his friendships and love of people.
Ernie’s Celebration of Life will be held at Christ Community Chapel, 750 W. Streetsboro Street in Hudson, at 5 PM, on Monday, March 10, 2025.
His wishes, in lieu of flowers, are donations to Christ Community Chapel.
