Obituary of Evelyn Joan Hunt

STOW - Evelyn "Joan" Hunt, 79, died October 19, 2021.

Born in Akron in 1942 to Robert and Evelyn Dyke, she was a resident of Stow since 1955. Joan graduated from Stow High School in 1960 and from Heidelberg College in 1964. She was a Special Education Teacher, starting with a brief stint in the Akron Public Schools and then for the rest of her long career at Echo Hills Elementary School in Stow. Subsequent to "retirement", she spent nine years as a Home Instruction Tutor for the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District. She was married to William (Bill) Hunt for 56 years. She was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Cuyahoga Falls as a child and later in life.

Joan was passionate about her special education students. The honors that she cared about were the subsequent lives and achievements of those students. She was dedicated to her family and devoted great efforts in seeing that her mother and mother-in-law were well cared for in their later years.
For many years, she enjoyed sailing the Great Lakes with her husband, Bill. She liked martinis and reading true crime books.

Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her husband, William Hunt; brother, Thomas (Fran) Dyke; sister-in-law, Linda Beyer (Klaus); three nieces and one nephew and their families; cousin, John Oberholtzer (Jan). Joan will be remembered with fondness and gratitude by her family, friends, former students, and their families.

Private services have taken place. Burial at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to student scholarships at the Stow Schools Foundation (https://stowschoolsfoundation.org).
