STOW - George Wayne Akers, 84, passed on July 29, 2023, with his daughters at his side.
He was born to Doris and Wayne Akers and was the oldest of their three children. George was a loving father to his three daughters; Sharon, Cindi, and Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Akers; his parents, Doris and Wayne Akers; his sister, Betty Skeans, and his brother, Jon Akers.
After he graduated from Stow High School in 1956, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany. He then went on become a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Firestone for 32 years. He was a member of the Northern Masonic Scottish Rite Freemasons for 50+ years. After retirement, he cared for his ailing mother until her passing. He loved watching the birds, and his constant companion for 21 years was his bird, Connor.
George enjoyed his daily “run” as he frequented Walgreens to collect his newspapers for the crossword puzzles, and hand out Reese's cups to his favorite people. He looked forward to his daily conversations with the very kind people in his social circle.
George is greatly missed by his daughter, Sharon Akers-Tower; his daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Scott Reynolds; his grandchildren, Kaleigh and Stephen, Shantelle, Aleigha, Jaden, Lucas and Logen, as well as his great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Brady, and Harper.
