HUDSON - George E. Groborchik, age 89, passed away December 11, 2023.
He was born November 29, 1934, on the family farm in Nelson, Ohio. He was the only child of Mary (Malec) and John Groborchik, both deceased. In this childhood, he enjoyed the kids from nearby farms as well as being surrounded by doting grandparents and his Uncle Ed, who was more like his big brother. One of those boyhood friends, Jim Soltis, introduced him to the woman that would become his future wife, Jean. As it turns out, Jim’s girlfriend, Ann Marie, was Jean’s best friend.
After he graduated from Garrettsville High School, he worked at the Ravenna Arsenal and local fuel oil company.
In 1957, George was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Germany through May 1959. He transferred to the U.S. Army Corps - Reserves until his honorable discharge on May 31, 1963. He married Jean Tomasek on September 12, 1959. They were married 62 years until her death in 2021.
He attended Kent State University on the GI Bill and graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He taught fifth grade at Overdale Primary School in Tallmadge. In 1968, he earned his Master’s of Education Degree from Kent State University and became the principal at West Park Elementary School in Ravenna from 1969 - 1993.
In his retirement, he had a brief stint as City of Aurora zoning inspector. Mostly, he enjoyed traveling with Jean and taking multiple cruises and land trips to locations around the world. Summers, he returned to his roots as a gentleman farmer at his property on Ravenna Street in Hudson.
George was a faithful member of St. Mary Parish in Hudson for over 40 years.
For the past eight years, George bravely endured multiple health problems that ultimately took his ability to walk. His family would like to thank the Summa T3 ICU medical and nursing staff, Summa Hospice nurses, the staff at Danbury Hudson, especially his favorite aides, Sandriene and Chris, and physician, Dr. Audra Krebs, for her thorough care. A special thank you to church friends, Anmarie Gaunter and Jean O’Mara, whose numerous caring ways have not gone unnoticed over the years. In addition, Dad looked forward to weekly visits from Deacon Karl when he came to pray.
George is survived by daughter, Georgina (John) Hermann; son, Gerold (Janet) Groborchik; grandchildren, Monica Hermann, Steve (Anna) Hermann, Grace Groborchik (Raffy), and Eli Groborchik; great granddaughter, Addison Hermann; sister-in-law, Donna (Larry) Borosh, as well as two nieces and two nephews, and the extended family of the Coz, Carroll, Borosh, Grober, and Sarna families.
