KENT - Our sweet mother, Helen M. Prentice, 92, went home to be with Jesus on August 31, 2022.
She was born in Warren, Ohio, on December 1,1929, to Stephen and Leta Coldiron, and moved to Akron while still a young girl. Mom attended Houghton College in New York state, then returned to Akron, where she completed her degree at the University of Akron. She married her sweetheart, Everett, in 1952, and was married to him for almost 44 years, before his passing in 1996.
After her children were in school, Mom went back to work, exercising her bookkeeping skills at Chapel Hill Christian School, where she made many friends and truly enjoyed her work there. It wasn't easy juggling five children and a job, but she did so without complaint, retiring after 30 years of service. Additionally, she was a faithful member of Chapel Hill Church of the Christian & Missionary Alliance, having served in many capacities including piano player for Junior Church, nursery volunteer, and on the Finance Committee.
Mom deeply mourned the loss of our Dad and showed us what it's like to love so deeply you never quite recover from their loss. She found activities and volunteer positions to fill her time, but never filled the void of losing her beloved Everett. Mom loved her family deeply, and while not given to showy, outward displays of that love, she showed it in quiet acts of service, in diligent prayer for her kids and grandkids, and in taking great delight in watching her family's accomplishments. She was so proud of her brood! She set a great example for us, exhibiting loyalty, responsibility, perseverance, and a tremendous amount of grace as she became more dependent on others.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; parents; siblings, Raymond, Richard, Bernard, and Ruth. She is survived by her five children, Susan (John) Kulha, Debbie (Chris) Smeiles, Dale (Susan) Prentice, Doug Prentice, and Sandy (Jon) Quackenbush; fifteen grandchildren, Katie, Andrew, Lisa, Jeff, David, Stephen, Tyler, Alexandra, Elise, Carly, Ashley, Brandon, Evan, Ellie, and Carmen; thirteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
We will all miss her terribly but are rejoicing she is once again whole in mind, body, and spirit.
Funeral service will be held 3 PM, Saturday, at Chapel Hill Church, 1160 Howe Avenue, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221. Friends may call from 1 PM until service time at the church. Private graveside service will take place Monday at Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg.
