STOW - Herman S. Frye, 87, peacefully passed away at home on September 15, 2023, with his family by his side.
He was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and moved to Akron, Ohio, in 1954, with his new bride, Dixie, one day after their wedding. There they raised a family of five children together.
Herman worked for The East Ohio Gas Company for 38 years, retiring in 1993.
He had several hobbies that he took great pride in. He raised championship coon hounds for many years, winning a house full of trophies. He was also an avid gardener. His family looked forward to his great harvest of vegetables every year. This past summer, despite his ailing health, he was determined to have one more garden, and there was. He picked his final harvest a few short weeks ago.
Mr. Frye is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers, Clyde, Charles, and James Frye, and sisters, Ethel Baldwin and Alice Workman.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dixie (Hughes) Frye, and children; Jeffrey (Pamela) Frye, Denita (Lewis) Williams, Tracey Frye (Trace Meredith), Kurt (Lisa) Frye, and Kevin Frye; grandchildren, Ryan (Carrie), Garrett (Ali), Gregory (Ashley), Graeme (Allie), Sean (Catherine), Tiahna, Cory, Caleb (Gladys), and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Faye Glaspell, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Brenda and Fred Smith, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Frye served in the National Guard and was a member for many years of the Mission Baptist Temple and Acker-Moore VFW Post #4738 in Stow.
