Howard A. Dias

HUDSON - Howard A. Dias, a 16-year resident of Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson, Ohio, died on February 27, 2024.

Mr. Dias was born on August 6,1927, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. In 1930, he moved with his family to Flushing, Ohio. Most of his adult life was spent in Stow, Ohio.

A graduate of Flushing High School, he played football and basketball and developed a love of all sports, college and professional. Upon graduation, he served in the United States Army where he continued his basketball career.

In 1951, after graduating from Kent State University, he was hired in the accounting department of the BF Goodrich Company. Subsequently, he was transferred to the sales department where he became the Operating Manager of Tire Company Commercial Sales, retiring after 35 years of service. At BF Goodrich, he met employee, Irene Mandley. They were married 54 years before her untimely death from cancer in 2006.

After retiring from BF Goodrich, he was elected to the Fox Den Golf Corporation Board of Directors. He served in various management capacities including President of the Corporation. Howard had a unique ability to remember the details of incidents, the people, and events that occurred during his lifetime. If he detected even a slight spark of interest, he would gladly tell you a story.

An introduction to the game of golf in 1958 led to an extraordinary interest both as a player and a spectator. In 1960, the PGA Championship was held at Firestone Country Club and Howard attended. He was so impressed by the PGA Tour that he attended golf events at Firestone each year until health issues interfered in 2013. He attended PGA Tournaments in various cities, including three of the four tournaments considered to be majors. The British Open remains on his bucket list.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; his parents, Herbert and Anne Dias; his sisters, Ruth Campbell, Jean Saffel, and Ann Richardson. Survivors include his nephews, Terry, Kevin, and Richard Campbell.

Mr. Dias was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. There will be no services. Interment has taken place.
