Irene Faye Defer

STOW - Irene Faye Defer, 81, of Stow, passed away peacefully March 7, 2023.

Irene was born in Parris Island, SC, and moved to northeast Ohio at a young age. Irene was the oldest of four children. She was a graduate of Southeast High School in 1959, and attended Kent State University. She was loving, caring, and full of spunk. She was passionate about cooking for her family, enjoyed Indy car racing, crossword puzzles, vacationing, desserts, and spending time with her loved ones. Our family was so blessed to have a Mother, Granny, and Great-Granny, (Gi Gi), who knew how to make an impression on anyone. She will be dearly missed.

Preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Gladys Spurlock, she is survived by her daughter, Theresa Defer; granddaughter, Jessie (Chris) Hamed; great-grandchildren, Luke and Taryn; sister, Margaret Bates; brothers, Phil (Olive), Paul (Roni) Spurlock, and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at 2 PM, at the Independence Place Club House, 4921 Friar Road, Stow, OH 44224.
