KENT - James Edward Collins, 67, passed away on May 18, 2024. He was born May 1, 1957, to Kathryn and Robert Collins.
Jim, the most loving and devoted husband, father, and uncle, is survived by his loving wife, and best friend, Melana; son, Robert "Bobby" Collins; brothers, Patrick and Michael Collins; niece and nephew, Carly and Anthony Tersigni, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Becky Tersigni. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kathryn and Robert Collins.
Jim was a talented singer, and he loved to write. Golf was his passion, and his favorite golf course was Augusta National, where he dreamed of attending The Masters.
Jim loved sports, and didn't just play them, he mastered them, including bowling . . . he scored a perfect 300! He ran freshman track for Tallmadge High School in 1973, and played baseball and football. A Tallmadge Blue Devil, he wore #30 on the football team, which won All-State. He also earned his Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. His favorite sports team was the Cleveland Browns.
In 2019, he retired from Schwebel's Bakery after 30 years of service.
Jim was a truly great man whose impact will be forever felt by his wife and family that loves him dearly. He was a selfless man whose passing left an unfillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones. With his easy-going, laid-back personality, he was a joy to be around, and he will be greatly missed by many.
The funeral service will be held Friday, May 24, 2024, at 1 PM, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow 44224, where friends may call from 11 AM, until service time. Burial will follow at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park in Cuyahoga Falls.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association ( heart.org ), or Summit County Developmental Disabilities ( summitdd.org ). Checks for Summit DD can also be mailed to 2355 2nd Street, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, with the memo line reading "Jim Collins Memorial." Feel free to designate a desired use, such as programs for children, support for adults, autism, etc. Please make sure your check includes an address where an acknowledgement card may be sent.
