James (Jim) Patrick Massey

CUYAHOGA FALLS - James (Jim) Patrick Massey, dearly loved husband, father, father-in-law, great-grandfather, and friend passed away September 9, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on December 26, 1932, in Elmhurst, Illinois, he was the fourth child and only son to parents Patrick and Florence Massey. Enlisting in the Army and serving in the Korean War, Jim rose to the rank of Sargeant before being honorably discharged in 1953. In 1959, Jim began a long and successful career at General Tire and in 1957, married the love of his life - Mary Lou. He spent 35 years at General Tire before retiring in 1993 and shared sixty-two beautiful years making memories with Mary Lou. Standing a solid 6’4”, with a very loud, deep voice, matter of fact demeanor, and business (Planning proceeds progress) mentality, from the outside, no doubt Jim could be intimidating. He was the guy you wanted on your side! On the inside, however, he had so much love for and pride in his family, bragging about them whenever possible. He and Mary Lou loved big gatherings and spending as much time as possible with family and friends. He spent countless hours attending his children and grandchildren’ activities. There was no question whether Jim was in attendance, as his voice rang out across the gyms and ball fields, or wherever he was, for all to hear. His loved ones will always remember him for his endless support and love, his many stories, his booming, contagious laugh, squeezing their faces, and his heavy-duty hugs. Jim is survived by his five children; Pat (Kim) Massey, Tom (Tina) Massey, Sharon (Wayne) Seeley, Ken (Mariedith) Massey, and Mike (Donna) Massey; ten grandchildren, Daniel (Caitlyn) Massey, Sean Massey, Taylor (Cory) Farcas, Wendy (Wes) Herman, Chrissy (Ryan) Cherkala, Jordan (Lindsay) Massey, Morgan (Michael) Patton, Hunter (Madison) Massey, David Massey, and Michael Massey; ten great-grandchildren, Brycen, Blakelyn, Addisyn, Paighton, Chloe, Ashton, Preston, Evelyn, Alayna, and Winona. Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou; his parents, Patrick and Florence Massey, and his three sisters, Ann Marie, Kathleen, and Loretta. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to Sue Lockemer for her care and support of both our parents for over the past 20 years. There will be no calling hours. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM, Monday, September 16, 2024, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church (IHM), 1905 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls 44223, to celebrate Jim’s life. We invite and welcome anyone who would like to share memories, stories, and laughs to join us at SYB Hall, 4157 Hudson Drive, Stow 44224 following the mass for a light lunch from 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Woodridge Foundation, 4411 Quick Road, Peninsula, OH 44264, for scholarships, endowments, and other programs.
