Janet Wise Howard

MACEDONIA - Janet Wise Howard passed away on November 6, 2022, at the age of 95. A lifetime resident of Stow, Janet graduated from Stow High School and Kent State University. Janet had retired after a long and distinguished career as a librarian: Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library, Stow City Schools, Kent Free Library, and the Cuyahoga Falls Library.

Janet was a member of the Stow Women's Club where she served as president, and was a deaconess at the First Christian Church in Stow. She also volunteered to set up and oversee the church library and joined the Church and Synagogue Library Association of Northeast Ohio.

Janet enjoyed her volunteer work as a friend of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library and helping in the Stow History Room located there. As a Kent State alumnus, she volunteered at the Fashion Museum on campus and at Porthouse Theater as well. For 22 years, she was a volunteer usher at E.J. Thomas Hall, and she also volunteered at the Akron Civic Theatre.

Janet had a rich, full life with family and friends whom she loved and who loved her beyond measure. She will be remembered by all the lives she touched, especially by her beloved sons, David R. Howard of Stow, Roger B. Howard of Boise, Joel B. Howard (Libby) of Minneapolis, Gary C. Howard of Cleveland, and Timothy J. Howard (Joseph) of Brecksville. She had many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including some who "adopted" her as their "Grandma Jan.” Janet's cousins were all very special to her, especially her devoted cousin, Mary Massee. Janet also collected and cherished many friends throughout her life.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours from 1 to 4 PM on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road in Stow. At 4:00 PM, we will have a celebration of Janet's life, officiated by Rev. Jill A. Smith, also to be held at Redmon Funeral Home. Private interment at Rose Hill Cemetery will be held at a later date.
