Joan S. Hurd (Idle)

SILVER LAKE - Joan S. Hurd (Idle), 83, of Silver Lake, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2024, at Eden Vista Senior Living and Memory Care facility in Stow, surrounded by her family.

Born in Cleveland on August 14, 1940, to parents Eddy and Sue Idle, she had been a resident of Silver Lake since 1976. She grew up in Stow and graduated from Stow High School in 1958, which was the last year Stow ever had a graduation class for under 100 people. After graduating from high school, Joan attended Kent State for one year, then went on to work for Ohio Edison in Kent as a secretary. On August 29, 1964, she married her soulmate, James Hurd.

Joan was the membership secretary at First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls, a job she truly loved, for 25 years, before retiring in 2009. She was very sociable and loved meeting new people. She was active in the church's women's circle and bowling league for years. She loved to garden, mow, and bake.

Preceded in death by her parents, Eddy and Sue Idle, she is survived by her husband of 59 years, Jim Hurd; daughters, Susan (Keith) Yeary, and Karen (Dugan); grandchildren, Robert (Yeary), Lauren (Yeary), Emma (Hlad), Stephen (Hlad), and Amy (Hlad), as well as great grandson, Asher. She is also survived by her brother, Steve Idle, of Sarasota Florida.

The family would like to thank the staff at Eden Vista Memory Care for the kind and compassionate care they gave to Joan in her final months. They would also like to thank Miracle City Hospice for making Joan comfortable in her final weeks.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, 44224, at 10 AM, with funeral service to follow at 12 PM. Interment Stow Cemetery.
