Andy Myers

December 29, 1959 — March 1, 2024

SILVER LAKE - John Andrew (Andy) Myers, Sr., passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024, after a sudden illness. He was born to Mary Lou and Louis Myers on December 29, 1959.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Buddy. He is survived by his beloved wife, Clare, and two children, Jack (John Andrew, Jr.), and Grace; siblings, Linda Tilton (Steve), Joseph Myers (Wendy), Gerry Myers (Donna), Judy Babak (George); numerous nieces and nephews, and family friends, Ned Stemple and Lee Hamill.

Andy never strayed far from his childhood home. He grew up in Silver Lake, Ohio, and chose to raise his children in a house just up the street from his childhood home. His business “Andy Myers Allstate”, which he ran with Clare for 28 years, was just a few blocks away.

Silver Lake is the spot in which Andy discovered his lifelong love of sailing, a hobby he shared with Clare during many summers spent on their boat “Amiga Mia”, traversing the Great Lakes with friends, Steve and Carol Hegedus. Andy then passed this passion onto his son, Jack, via their shared sailboat “Nellie”, which is stationed on Lake Erie.

“There was never anything low-key about Andy”, as stated by niece, Molly. He was an eccentric who brought a unique flair to everything he did. You would often see him about town donning a top hat, a flamboyant racing shirt, or a new pair of statement glasses. This love for the eccentric is a trait passed on to his daughter, Grace.

Andy’s tendency for sentimentality was most evident in his adoration of the family dog, “Lana” or “Lonnie”.  Lana enjoyed weekend outings with Andy, in which he would take her for a drive around the neighborhood so she could sightsee. He doted upon Lana, whom he considered his first grandchild, building her handcrafted dog beds so she could lounge next to him when he enjoyed an evening cigar.

Andy had a passion for food and feeding others. He never met a grill or smoker he wouldn’t buy, (much to Clare’s dismay). He was known to cook elaborate meals for his friends at his favorite hangout, cigar store, Smoker’s Etc. When Andy was in charge of the menu, you could guarantee it would be an elaborate culinary experience.

A hobbyist, Andy lived for his biannual trips to St. Augustine Florida, where he would spend weeks fishing and camping with Clare. He was also known to visit Daytona Motor Speedway and Sebring. Andy’s favorite race, though, was the Indy 500, which he attended yearly with son, Jack, nephew, Louie, close friend, Ben, and Grace’s partner, Thom.

No one was ever a stranger to Andy, and this fact has never been clearer than through the outpouring of love and hilarious stories from all who mourn him. If you knew Andy, you likely have a story of him that makes you laugh. His legacy for the eccentric, flamboyant, and sentimental will surely live on through our memories of him.

A Celebration of Life is to be announced at a later date.
