Joseph (Joe) Anthony Cistone

STOW - Joseph Anthony Cistone, 88, died December 15, 2023.

Born in Akron, he resided in Stow much of his life, and graduated from West High School and the University of Akron with a Master’s Degree in Education and Administration. Joe played college football and wrestled for the University of Akron. He was also a U.S. Army veteran. Joe worked for Goodyear, was a school teacher, and served as a school counselor and a principal for the Akron Public School District the majority of his life. He spent many years fishing, boating, and enjoying the family cottage in Ontario, Canada.

He loved hiking, his many dogs and cats, and feeding the birds in his yard.

Joe and his late wife, Jeannette, were very involved at Holy Family Catholic Church, volunteering as Eucharist Ministers, Bible study teachers, and were in charge of the Caregivers Program. They also never missed a week of bringing the Eucharist to residents at area nursing homes.

Most of all, Joe loved spending time with his family.

Preceded in death by wife, Jeannette Cistone; parents, Rose and Tony Cistone; big brother, Nick, and sister, Connie. He is survived by his son, Tim (Rosey); daughter, Kathy (Carl) Chmielewski; son, Tom (Diane); grandchildren, Holly, Nick, Maria, Faith, Anthony, Alex, Kristin, Dominic, Austin, Keri, and Kelly, and great-granddaughter, Mia.

Mass of Christian Burial, 11 AM, Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 3179 Kent Road, Stow 44224. Friends may call from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, also on Thursday, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow 44224. Burial Holy Cross Cemetery.
