STOW - Joseph F. Sigmund, 93, passed away peacefully at his home with family at his side on September 11, 2022.
Born in Cleveland, he was a first generation American and a resident of Stow/Munroe Falls since 1960. He was a graduate of Benedictine High School and John Carroll University where he graduated with a degree in math and physics. He was employed as an electrical engineer at RCA prior to his military service, and then at Goodyear Aerospace/Loral Corporation as an Engineering Specialist, where he was recognized for 32 years of dedicated and distinguished service while working until retirement on government defense contracts, missile guidance systems, and the F15 flight simulator. During his employment at RCA, he was drafted into the United States Army, Third Armored Division, and served at the Frankford Arsenal in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Joseph enjoyed spending time with his family, was an avid gardener, enjoyed studying and tracking the weather, bird watching, working on his computer, watching and playing sports, and many other outdoor activities. Music was also a big part of his life as he enjoyed playing the accordion and the organ while also listening to his favorite records.
Preceded in death by his parents, Josef and Antoinette Sigmund, and his sisters, Emma and Josephine. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lois (Sprenger) Sigmund; daughters, Terri (Greg) Brumbaugh and Debbie (Joe) McGovern; sons, Michael (Joni) and John (Sari) Sigmund; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild, and his brother, Frank Sigmund.
The family would like to extend their heart-felt appreciation and gratitude to home health care aide, Vincentia Stewart for over five years of outstanding care and support that she provided to Joseph and his family. They would also like to thank the Crossroads Hospice team for their great support over the past month.
A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 11 AM at Holy Family Catholic Parish, 3179 Kent Road, Stow 44224. Calling hours will be held at the church from 10 to 11 AM prior to Mass.
