STOW - Joyce M. (Fairfax) McBrayer, 82, passed away August 21, 2022. Joyce was born in Akron, Ohio, to Clarence R. and Hazel O. Nutt. Growing up in Lawrenceburg, TN, she attended school in a one room schoolhouse. She moved back to Ohio with her family to attend high school.
Mom was very bright and humble, skipping a grade in school and becoming a member of MENSA as an adult. She was a veracious reader, favoring crime dramas, biographies, and the Bible.
Mom loved to travel and enjoyed many experiences from plays, operas, and orchestra performances. She loved learning new skills, or she tried, golf, tennis, and more. Her favorite activities were watching her grandkids in their sports, cheering, church plays, or whatever they were involved. She followed Terry at his music performances, attended church, and do not interrupt her if the Buckeyes or Browns were playing. Her mom, Hazel, and her sister, Frances, were her best friends, and they had many laughs together. Our family is thankful for such a strong heritage of these three women.
Her greatest desire was to live her faith in Jesus well and for her to see her family and friends see His love through her so they could have a personal relationship with Him. She hoped to see everyone in heaven with her. Perhaps this is why she was over the top in her joy and celebration of Valentine's Day, epic cupcakes, cards, and at times, pranks.
We will miss her prayers, wonderful meals, her persistent faith, fun, adventurous approach to life, great kindness, and acceptance of those she met.
She is survived by her three sons, Randy (Courtney) Fairfax, Kevin (Nanci) Fairfax, and Terry Fairfax (Mary Flint); five grandchildren, Ryan (Laura) Fairfax, Jordan (Rachel) Fairfax, Breanne (Shaun) Castillo, Whitney (Peter) Tragos, and Colby (Jenna) Fairfax, as well as thirteen greatgrandchildren, Landon, Emma, Jack, Bentley, Watson, Scarlett, Dalton, Claire, Wells, Brooklyn, Maverick, Chloe, and Kevin Jaxson.
Memorial service will be held Saturday 12 noon at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow 44224, where friends may call from 10 AM until service time.
