KENT - Larry A. Kolb, 76, died August 23, 2023.

Born in Akron, Larry was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was previously employed with Alside and had retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber after 30 years.  During retirement, Larry enjoyed construction and remodeling projects, snow birding in Florida, time with friends and family, vacations at the beach and Lake Santeetlah, and even the occasional round of golf. Many rounds of golf he did not enjoy. He played competitive basketball well into middle age. Larry loved music, particularly hymns, and also loved holding “dance parties” with a playlist from the 50s and 60s during family vacations. He followed Cleveland’s professional sports teams, but we all know that nobody really enjoys that. He was an avid reader, especially of God’s Word.

Larry gave his life to Jesus Christ on Monday, April 1, 1974, shortly after 10 PM. After that, he was a lifelong member of The Chapel in Akron, where he served in many roles including usher, deacon, trustee, and teacher of adult Sunday school. With others from the church, he went on several trips to Mississippi to repair homes damaged by hurricane Katrina. He faithfully modeled a life of following Christ to those around him ~ co-workers, friends, and family. He would read his Bible at lunchtime at Goodyear, earning him the nickname “Rabbi” from his colleagues there. He was generous with his time and money, often serving and giving quietly without fanfare or recognition.

Larry is now experiencing the promise of the gospel ~ eternal life with his savior Jesus! He can say along with the apostle Paul, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

Preceded in death by his parents, James D. and Marian M. Kolb, and brother, Gary Kolb, he is survived by his wife of 53 years, Valerie; sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Caryl Kolb and Jason and Amy Kolb; grandchildren, Leslie, Curtis, Evan, Daniel, Luke, Noah, and Grace; sister, Jeannie Ferrell, and sister-in-law, Shirley Kolb.
