Funeral Service on behalf of Mrs. Lou-Ann Redmon

STOW - Lou-Ann Redmon (nee Achberger), 84, passed away on August 7, 2024, after a brief illness.

Lou-Ann was born in Akron to Elden “Al” and Helen (nee Worron) Achberger, on September 29, 1939, and her first home was the South End Canoe Livery on the Ohio Canal. The family moved to Cuyahoga Falls where she graduated with the Cuyahoga Falls High School “Class of ‘57”, where she met her husband, Bruce, also a classmate. They served together on the class reunion committee every five years until 2017.

A graduate of Akron General Medical School of Nursing, she and numerous nursing classmates maintained a strong lifetime friendship.

In 1968, Bruce and Lou-Ann started Redmon Funeral Home in Stow, fulfilling Bruce’s dream of establishing and owning a community funeral home. As the funeral home grew, it became evident that no “continuing care” existed locally for those who had experienced the death of someone they loved. Lou-Ann recognized that need, became a Nationally Certified Bereavement Facilitator, and began grief support for families served by Redmon Funeral Home. That support evolved and became the first community support group in the area. Soon she was leading grief workshops and seminars nationally, and presenting programs for churches, schools, medical, nursing, and ministerial students, hospices, community service organizations, extended care facilities, and many more. All this gave birth to The Grief Care Place in Stow, which became a registered non-profit charitable organization in 1997, where Lou-Ann served as Director for 20 years.

Lou-Ann liked to say of the funeral home and grief care support, “What a privilege it has been to serve and minister to those who have entrusted us with their care. No calling could be higher for us.”

Lou-Ann’s former community involvement included Stow Women’s Club, PTA, bookkeeper for the Cuyahoga Falls First Assembly Church, and Cornerstone Community School. As a long-time active member of The Chapel in Akron, she was Women’s Bible Study Leader, Ticket Chairman for The Chapel Christmas Concerts, and developed and led the Grieve Not Alone grief support program.

In recent years, Lou-Ann and Bruce considered Christ Community Chapel in Hudson their church home.

Lou-Ann was preceded in death by Bruce, her husband of sixty years, in 2022, and her sister, Jerilyn Yama, also in 2022.  Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Pam Redmon of Duluth, GA, and Keith and Catherine Redmon of Stow; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Alyssa (Todd) Slagle, and their son, Connor, of Atlanta, GA; Craig (Katie) Redmon, and their daughters, Allison and Harper, of Hoschton, GA; Jacob Redmon of Stow; and Sydney (Ryan) Roush, and their children, Jackson and Raegan, of Fairborn, OH; sisters, Marla (Vic) DeBellis of Akron, and Maloa Achberger, of Cuyahoga Falls.

To Dr. Sameer Mahesh and staff, please know how much we appreciate all you have done and how you have been a trusted partner in Lou-Ann’s journey.  We would like to also express heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Summa and Cornerstone Caregiving for the kind and compassionate care given to Lou-Ann during these last few weeks.
