Born April 12, 1930, in Akron, her parents, Harvey and Beatrice Lucille Greer, had moved to Hudson from Findlay, (her father’s family had been one of the founding families of Hancock County), for her father’s job at Goodyear as a chemist.

They lived in Hudson until she was 13, then moved to Winchester, VA, when her father was sent to Washington, DC to assist in the war effort manufacturing synthetic rubber.
