STOW - Marjorie Ann Yannucci (nee Brekoski), 80, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Summa Hospice, Akron, Ohio, after a courageous battle with leukemia. During her 15-month illness, she was expertly cared for by Dr. Sameer Mahesh and oncology nurses, Shelby, Kacie and Elise, who became dear friends. Also in tremendous support to the family was Summa business employee, Nicole.
Marge was born to George and Margaret (Hildack) Brekoski, on April 27, 1944, in Warren, Ohio. She graduated from Warren G. Harding High School (WGH), in 1961. Marge then graduated with a nursing diploma, from Trumbull Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, in Warren, in 1964, where she started her exemplary 48-year career of unwavering care for others.
Marge enjoyed the past 40 years working at Summa Health System (formerly Akron City Hospital), where she retired, in 2012, from Same Day Surgery. Marge was extremely proud to be a registered nurse, which was highlighted, in 2010, by receiving Summa’s Preceptor Excellence Award, naming her the outstanding registered nurse preceptor in the Department of Nursing. Even up to her last days, she expressed intense desire to pass inside the walls of the beloved hospital where she “spent her life.” Blessedly, her wish was answered through Summa Health Hospice.
Margie, as family and friends called her, was a talented knitter/crocheter. She showed her affection through gifting these meticulously crafted items - in particular, stunningly perfect afghans. She also became known as a preparer of delicious specialty food she enjoyed sharing at gatherings.
Marge enjoyed flowers of all kinds, birds and butterflies. She was an avid collector of many beautiful items she proudly displayed in her meticulously kept home. In recent years, she enjoyed thrift shopping, finding high-end collectibles as well as dolls to rehab and, ultimately, donate to underprivileged children at Christmas, with her friend, Fran.
Marge is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Ray Yannucci, also from Warren. The childhood sweethearts and WGH classmates were married June 25, 1966, in Warren. They enjoyed 20 years of Super Bowl trips and were talented jitterbug dancers. Dedicated parents, Marge and Ray raised two children, Kelly Rae (Thom) Stanford, of Avon, Ohio, and Marc Yannucci (Mandy), of Streetsboro, Ohio. Marge was a devoted grandmother to Leah Stanford and Joseph Yannucci and a dear sister to Mrs. Samuel (Mary) Webster, of Warren. Margie will be watching over her beloved nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews as well as a treasure trove of extended family and friends. Marge also dearly loved the family dog, a Maltese, named Reggie.
Preceding her in death are her parents and younger sister, Georgeann (Brekoski) Falkinburg; in-laws, Lucy and David Yannucci; brother-in-law, Ronald Yannucci, and niece, Sherry Webster.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 4 to 7 PM, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, Ohio, (redmonfuneralhome.com) The funeral mass will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024, at noon, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Parish, 83 Mosser Place, Akron, where she was a devoted member.
