STOW - Michael S. Gazella, 93, passed away February 25, 2023, after fighting a long and hard battle with Alzheimer’s.
Mike was born in Detroit, Michigan, and moved to the Akron area as a child. Mike graduated from the University of Akron with a B.A. in marketing, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. After graduation, he received a commission in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War, eventually earning the rank of captain while in the reserves. Upon his return from service, he was employed as a salesman in the graphic arts industry until retirement in 2001.
Mike was a member of St. Hilary Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council. When he moved to Stow and became a member of Holy Family Parish, he served a term on their Parish Council as well. His family was very important to him. While his son was growing up, he served as Scoutmaster of Cub Scout Troop 3390, and Assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 380. He was an avid reader and was regarded as one of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library’s biggest patrons.
Preceded in death by his parents, Michael J. and Florence Gazella, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara (nee Schweikert), and son, Paul.
