Michael W. Gungle

GREEN - Michael W. Gungle, 86, of Green, passed away peacefully March 17, 2025.

Born in Akron, and the son of the late Mike and Donna (Bucklew) Gungle, Michael was a proud graduate of South High School, where he enjoyed playing sports like basketball, football, swimming, and running track. Following high school, Mike had a long career including as a driver with Pepsi-Cola Company, to then being district manager, where he won numerous awards through the years. After his first “retirement,” Mike had successful businesses in Akron both as a Subway franchise owner and as the “Deck Doctor.” He finished out his career with fifteen dedicated years at Lowe’s, where he made lasting friendships, and worked every day up to his illness.

Mike had a love for music and was a talented musician as well. He played the organ, and he loved playing for family and friends. Mike was considered quite an accomplished accordion player. He also taught keyboard for several years. Mike enjoyed riding his Harley back in the day, scuba diving for numerous years where he was well recognized, and traveling to Treasure Island, Florida. In more recent years, he loved watching old westerns, Friday morning breakfasts with his “homies” at Woody's, Saturday afternoon hotdogs for lunch with his friend, Mike, spending time with family, and going to church Sunday mornings at Concordia Lutheran Church, where he was a lifelong member and where he served and volunteered in many capacities.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carole (25 years), and second wife, Julie (27 years); daughters, Kathy, Tammy, and Terry; son, Jeffrey, and grandchildren Janice and Jeremy.

Survived by his loving family, daughters, Karla Valentine, Tracy Morrison, Tanya Zikoski, and Tina Welch; siblings, Connie Auerbach, Linda Howell, Donna Bartkus, and Bev Eastman; nineteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren, and many other family members and good friends.

Friends are invited to Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, (Rt. 91), Stow 44224, for visitation on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 6 to 8 PM.  Funeral service will be held Friday, March 21, 2025, at 11 AM, at Concordia Lutheran Church, 724 Sumner Street, Akron 44311, where friends may call from 10 AM until time of service.

Burial Glendale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church.
