Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Michael E. McCandless

AKRON - Michael E. McCandless was born on April 6, 1948, in Ravenna, Ohio, and died on Friday, November 10, 2023, after a short illness.

Preceded in death by his parents, William and Mildred McCandless (Hall), his surviving siblings are William McCandless (Marilyn), Marcella Griffin (Terry, Sr., deceased), Theresa McCandless, and Andy McCandless. He is also survived by his son, Fr. Michael P. McCandless, and his niece and nephews.

Michael attended Immaculate Conception Parish and grade school in Ravenna, Ohio. He was a 1966 graduate of Ravenna High School. He achieved a Master’s Degree in Education from Kent State University and taught at Brown Middle School in Ravenna for 30 years. He was a devoted father, who cherished time with his son. An avid golfer, he truly enjoyed time on the golf course, especially with his son and golfing friends. Dedicated to education as his career, he was also a lifelong learner.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023, from 4 to 7 PM, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road in Stow, 44224. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 10 AM, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 3179 Kent Road, Stow 44224. Burial Standing Rock Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that any remembrance be sent to Holy Family School , 3163 Kent Road, Stow, OH 44224, where it will provide scholarships for future students.
