"Don’t be sad it’s over, be glad it happened.”
Nancy Laine Storms died April 9, 2022, at the age of 95 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Special thanks to the staff of Porter Hills for all their kindness, dedication, and professional skill in taking care of Nancy in her last years.
Nancy is survived by her loving children, David (Debbie) Storms and Sallie (Dr. Stephen) Berg; dear grandchildren, Lisa (Rev. Timothy) Ziegler, Michael Storms, James (Dr. Ashley) Storms, Dr. Douglas Berg, Jennifer (Stephen) Dowd, Dr. Kenneth (Melissa) Berg, and twelve precious great grandchildren, (Mary, Annie, Charlie, Paxton, Kennedy, Samantha, Jameson, Quinn, Eva, Gavin, Baylor, and Carson).
Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edmund Storms; parents, Maurice and Elizabeth Laine, and brother, Dr. Dee Laine.
Graduating from Michigan State University, Nancy married her college sweetheart, Ed Storms, and settled in Cuyahoga Falls to raise their family. She joined PEO and was a dedicated member of Chapter BK.
She taught at Weaver School in Munroe Falls and aimed to help each child reach their potential
Nancy was an active volunteer in many organizations. She believed in giving back and therefore community service was an important part of her life. She was generous, kind, and hardworking. She was “the Nail Lady” at Country Place Nursing Home, took blood pressures for mall walkers at Chapel Hill, and loved giving respite care for hospice patients.
Nancy was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Akron, where she belonged to Hannah Circle and the Keystone Class. She served on the board of the Summit County Women’s Auxiliary of Children’s Services. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years and enjoyed hearing from “her girls” throughout the years.
Most of all, she dedicated herself to her family, being a wonderful wife, mother, grandma, and great grandma. She was affectionately known to all her grandchildren as “The Tooth Fairy.” She truly was the matriarch of her family and loved being a part of everyone’s lives.
She was strong and courageous during life changes in her later years. She hated to complain and always greeted everyone with a smile. She took pride in remembering names and faces.
Nancy will be greatly missed here on earth, but her sweet and gentle soul will be warmly welcomed in Heaven.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Greater Akron, Smile Train, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
