SILVER LAKE - Loving wife, mother, sister, and the best grandmother ever, Pat Grant passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her immediate family on Thursday Nov 28, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Pat was born on March 3, 1951, in Lincoln Nebraska. After a series of moves due to her father’s city manager position, she settled in Ames, IA, and attended Iowa State University and graduated with a degree in elementary education. While at Iowa State, she met her husband, Stu Grant, and they were married in 1972. The couple relocated to Silver Lake, Ohio, following Stu’s career with The Goodyear Tire and Rubber company.
Once settled in Ohio, Pat started her career, teaching second and third grade at Preston and Lincoln Elementary Schools in Cuyahoga Falls. She also became very active in the community serving as president of Silver Lake Home and School League, a member of the Junior League of Akron, Silver Lake Village Garden Club, Silver Lake Village Council, and President of Akron Children’s Hospital Women’s Board.
In addition to her community service, Pat had many other passions. She was a talented “Fiber Artist” creating countless quilts, needlepoint and cross-stitch. She also enjoyed knitting sweaters, hats, mittens, and scarves for all her children and grandchildren. When she wasn’t inside crafting, you would find her outside tending to her beautiful gardens or arranging fresh cut flowers inside the house, but one of her favorite things to do was to slowly stroll the beach with one of her grandkids looking for the perfect shell on her beloved Sanibel Island.
Pat will be remembered for her radiant personality and infectious smile. She was the leader of the extended family and had the ability to light up any room. The fun factor in the world is less without her.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Jean Robert Castner and Mary Lou Castner.
She is survived by her husband, Stu; children, J.R. and Megan (Chura); daughter-in-law, Emily; son-in-law, Ric (Chura); grandchildren, Ella, Connor, Patrick, and Olivia; siblings, Ann (Ratcliff), Bob Castner, and Dan Castner.
A funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls, at 245 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, 44221, at 10AM, on Friday, December 20, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to
