Paul Junior Moser

June 17, 1937 — July 9, 2023

KENT - Paul Junior Moser, 86, died in the early morning of July 9, 2023.   He died at his home in Kent, Ohio, surrounded by his loving family. Paul was a resident of Kent for 58 years.

Paul was born on June 17, 1937, in Coshocton County to Paul M. Moser and Ada L. Moser (nee Levengood).

He graduated from Waynedale High School in Wayne County in 1956. During his senior year, he was awarded the title of MVP for his talents as the running back on the varsity football team.

Paul served in the United States Air Force from 1960 through 1964. He was part of the 674th Radar Squadron, located in Osceola, WI, and was tasked with radar maintenance.

Midway through his service, on June 9, 1962, he was married to Nancy J. Moser (nee Muekenheim), whom he affectionately called his “sweets” for 61 loving years.

Paul and Nancy enjoyed traveling to Vermont where Paul loved skiing with his brother-in-law. They also enjoyed gardening, visiting local fairs to eat sausage sandwiches, and spending time with family and friends.

The Mosers welcomed their daughter, Sonya Renae Hartburg (nee Moser), into the world in 1963. Whenever he spoke of his daughter, Paul was proud to say that she is a graduate of “The Ohio State University.”

Paul and Nancy attended the wedding of Sonya to their son-in-law, Mark D. Hartburg, Sr., on January 14, 1989.

Paul welcomed his grandson in 1990, and in 1991, his granddaughter was born. He was referred to as “Poppy” by both of his grandchildren.

He was an avid fisherman and took great pleasure in fishing with his grandson whom he called his “favorite fishing buddy.”

He lovingly referred to his granddaughter as “Peanut” and lit up anytime she entered a room. Their close relationship was best described when as a child she said, “I’ve got my Poppy in my pocket.”

Paul retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber in 2002, after 37 years of loyal service in the tire test division. He deeply loved his job and was happy to go to work each and every day.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson, Mark D. Hartburg, Jr., and his brother-in-law, Ra Walker of Aurora.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy J. Moser (nee Muekenheim), of Kent; devoted daughter and son-in-law, Sonya and Mark Hartburg of Kent; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Hartburg and her partner, Kevin Hirgelt, of Stow; sister, Katherine Walker of Aurora; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gretchen and Jeffrey Glasgow; many loving nieces and nephews; family, and friends.
