AKRON - Rito “Junior” Alvarez was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico on July 19, 1952. Since his birth year, he has resided in Ohio and more recently lived in Akron, Ohio. Rito passed away on December 27, 2023, at the age of 71 after a courageous battle against a chronic lung disease. He was surrounded by many loved ones as he entered eternity into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior.
A graduate of East High School in Youngstown, Rito went on to complete his bachelor’s degree at Youngstown State University and further pursued higher education and received his master's degree at The University of Akron. He was an accomplished civil engineer and was employed by NASA Glenn Research Center, Commercial Shearing, and most recently by the City of North Royalton as the Building Commissioner (appointed by Mayor of North Royalton) until his retirement in July 2012. Because of his love for the work that he did, he continued with his own consulting firm (R.A. Engineering, Inc.) into his retirement as a Master Plans Examiner.
He was a dedicated member of Community Baptist Temple in Akron. Rito was an avid reader and lifelong learner. He also enjoyed biking, running, photography, stargazing and many walks at the Springfield Lake with his wife, Charlotte.
