CUYAHOGA FALLS - Robert C. Ray, 91, died November 2, 2023.
Born at home in Akron, Bob cheerfully lived a life of service to others, his church, and his country. He served in the United States Navy, including deployments to Thule, Greenland and the Mediterranean Sea. Following his discharge, Bob returned to Akron, married, and hired on at Ohio Bell, where he worked for 35 years, initially as a lineman and telephone installer, eventually retiring as a safety consultant. He was an extremely hard worker and instilled that work ethic in his family.
After retiring, he and his wife purchased an RV, camping locally, throughout the U.S. and wintering in Florida, staying at various state parks where they could be found riding their bicycles on many adventures. They also travelled throughout the world: Germany, Spain, Greece, Crete, and the Holy Land. In addition to fishing annually in Canada with friends and family, (where he often returned with bragging rights for the largest fish), Bob enjoyed attending concerts, theater, sporting events, or sharing a meal with those he knew and loved. He was a lifelong Lutheran, most recently as an active member of Tallmadge Lutheran Church, elder, usher, and volunteer. He could often be found helping at the church wherever needed. He also volunteered with the Telephone Company Pioneers.
Preceded in death by three siblings, he is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Marjorie; daughters, Terri Ray, Sue (Jim) Donato, and Ellen (Chris) Tywon; grandsons, Ryan (Kathleen) Tywon and Kyle (Abbey) Tywon; great-grandson, Charles Tywon, and brother, Gerald Ray of Wisconsin.
