STOW - Long-time Stow resident, Robert E. Vogel, died Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the age of 96.
Calling hours will be held Friday, August 16, 2024, at the Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, from 4 - 7 PM. Funeral service will follow at 7 PM.
Born in Mansfield, Ohio, in 1928, Vogel was graduated from St. Peter’s High School in 1945 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. Upon his discharge from the service, he attended Case Institute of Technology where he received a degree in electrical engineering. He joined Ohio Edison Company where he worked for 32 years. One of his favorite Dad jokes was: “Used to be I couldn’t spell ‘unguneer’, and now I are one.”
Robert Vogel married his high school sweetheart, Jacquelyn A. Pilot, in Mansfield, on December 26, 1950. The couple have six children, 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
The family moved to Stow, Ohio in 1958, where they lived on Edgewood Drive. They joined Holy Family Catholic Church. Vogel was active in Stow Players Guild where he served as an actor and director. Running was a big part of his life. He participated in many races, including the Stow Firecracker Run, up into his 80s. When he retired, he served as a volunteer driver for the area Meals on Wheels program. He kept in touch with his high school classmates and enjoyed many reunions with them.
Vogel is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn A. Vogel; his children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren, and a very large extended family. He will be greatly missed by his children and their spouses: Clifford and Teresa Vogel, Laura and Bill Riley, Audrey and Dana Hanscel, Mike and Debbie Vogel, Melody and Sam Davis, and Joy and Mark Salberg.
