Livestream Funeral Service on behalf of Mr. Roger D. Ricks
STOW - Roger D. Ricks, 85, loving husband, father, and grandfather, went to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 6, 2024, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Roger was born in Akron, Ohio, on May 19, 1939, to the late Charles B. and Anna Caroline (Dill) Ricks of Cuyahoga Falls and was a 1957 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School. His sister, Sandra Ricks, preceded him in death.
He acquired his amateur ham radio license at the age of 17 (W8BOA) and was an avid ham radio operator all his life, using those skills for six years in the U.S. Army Reserves, where he was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1964. He continued to use those radio skills later in life with the Ham Radio Disaster Team (ARES).
Prior to his graduation from high school, he was hired as a technician at AT&T in Summit County, where he retired after 42 years of service.
In 1960, he married his loving, surviving wife, Helen Ruth Qualls Ricks, and together they raised son, Bruce (Theresa Ann) Ricks, and daughter, Teresa Lynn Studer (Chris). Roger was a proud Papa to his grandson, Joseph Patrick Studer, of Stow.
A member of Star Lodge #187 F & AM in Cuyahoga Falls, he exemplified those standards throughout his life, teaching his children how to morally be everything a person should be.
Roger was one of the beginning members of the Cuyahoga Falls Ham Radio Club, and a member of Ohio Bell Telephone Pioneers. Roger also loved fly fishing, boxing and baseball.
He enjoyed doing charitable work and was an assistant leader for Scout Pack 3273 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Stow, having fun adventures with his grandson.
In 1974, he was baptized at North Point Apostolic Church, and this led to his calling to form the tape ministry of the church.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, December 15, 2024, at 3 PM, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow 44224, where friends may call from 1 PM, until the service time at 3 PM. A private committal service for family will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Silver Springs Cemetery in Stow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the
