Ruth Jean Fitch

HUDSON - Ruth Jean Fitch, 88, died February 27, 2023.

Born in East Concord, NY, she grew up on a farm in nearby Springville. The first of five children, she was a big sister to Edward, Charles, Anne, and Kathleen. Ruth married the love of her life, Gene, in June 1955. At the insistence of her mother, she went on a blind date with Gene, the nephew of her mother’s co-worker. She thoroughly enjoyed her career years as an Executive Administrator for companies such as Grumman Aircraft, GenCorp, Monsanto, and Flexsys. Ruth was a licensed HAM radio operator (WA2JEE) and volunteered at the New York Eye Bank with her husband. Most of all, she enjoyed raising her family.

Being a wife, mother, and grandmother was everything to her. To her kids, she was an awesome swim mom. She enjoyed refinishing furniture, painting, and making English toffee, which she gifted to family and friends during the holidays. Her coveted recipe was only ever shared with a very select few. It was so damn good that many nicknamed it the Fitch Family Crack.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Eugene H. Fitch; daughter, Susan Fitch; son, Gene (Nancy) Fitch, and grandsons, Drew and Jackson Fitch.

Funeral Mass 10 AM, Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 3179 Kent Road, Stow, OH 44224. Private Burial at Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH 44273.
