STREETSBORO - Sang Hyun Yoo, 88, died July 3, 2024.
Born in Kohung, South Korea, Sang was the first child (oldest) of seven (7), siblings. Raised during the Korean War era, he suffered from societal dislocation due to the national conflict. However, he managed to further his education and graduated with a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Korea University. He thereafter immigrated with his family, (wife and two children), to the United States in 1971, and afterward, he invited all of his other siblings to the United States for work and further study. He was a long-time resident of northeastern Ohio, having last resided with his wife in Streetsboro and previously, with his wife and children in Hudson, Ohio since 1974. Sang had been the owner/operator of a number of small businesses throughout his life including dry-cleaning/laundry business with locations in Hudson, Kent, and Ravenna.
He was a member of The Korean Central Presbyterian Church of Cleveland. Sang was very active in community service, volunteering as a translator, helping with Korean Adoption Services, and serving the senior citizen community. He was also an elder with the Korean Presbyterian Church of Akron and a past-president of the Korean Senior Association of Greater Cleveland.
Sang enjoyed golfing, travelling the world, visiting national parks, driving across the USA, and spending time with his two (2) children, three (3) grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Jum Ku Yoo and Jung Yup Lee; brothers, Eui Hyun Yoo, and Chul Hyun Yoo. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ji Sook Yoo; sons, Andy (Un Kyung Kim) Yoo, and Korey (Jaya) Yoo; three grandchildren, (Adam, Aiden, and Isaac); brothers, Ji Hyun Yoo, Chun Hyun Yoo, and Kyu Hyun Yoo, as well as his sister, HeeJa Yoo.
Pastor Sung Taek Kim will conduct service, 4:30 PM, Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, OH 44224.
