STOW - Scott Jeffrey Smith, 70, passed away at The Briarwood Healthcare Community in Stow peacefully on Dec. 8, 2022, just a few blocks from the house where he spent his teens.
Born in Tallahassee, Florida, in 1952, Scott had lived at Briarwood, a skilled nursing facility, since 2017, and in the Akron area since around 2008.
Before that, he made a career in the Los Angeles area for many years as a production expediter at Valley Todeco, an aerospace parts and fasteners manufacturer in Sylmar.
Scott moved to the West Coast in the late ’70s, several years after his 1970 graduation from Stow High School. He had a brief stint in the U.S. Navy after high school.
Scott loved rock ’n roll, the blues and jazz, and attended scores of concerts in Northeast Ohio and other parts of the region in the late ’60s and early ’70s. He also enjoyed film and fiction, and one of his favorite pastimes was debating and discussing movies, albums, and books with his like-minded brothers. Scott also loved following his favorite Cleveland professional sports teams, (as frustrating as that could be), as well as college football and basketball.
Growing up, Scott and his brothers moved all over the country with their parents. Before the Smith family settled in the Stow-Munroe Falls area in 1965, Scott lived in Tallahassee and Daytona Beach, Florida; Dayton and Cincinnati, Ohio; Denver, Colorado; Tupelo, Mississippi, and Lexington, Ohio.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Stuart G., II, and Eula Averil Smith, his maternal grandparents, (N.H. and Pauline Biggers), and fraternal grandparents, (Stuart G. and Marguerite Smith).
He is survived by his five brothers, Kelly C. Smith (Rose Marie), of Wayne, PA; Stuart G. Smith, III (Jenny), of Stow; Terry A. Smith (Melanie) of Athens, Ohio; Colin D. Smith of Hudson, and Cameron D. Smith (Dina) of Austin, Texas, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families, and several cousins. Scott is also survived by his uncle, Jeff Biggers (Pat Hunter).
A memorial service for Scott will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund in Scott’s behalf (
