STOW - Sean Roger Flaherty passed away unexpectedly on June 7, 2024.

Born on September 12, 1979, to Thomas and Christine Flaherty in Akron, Ohio, Sean was raised in Stow, Ohio and was a 1998 graduate of Stow-Munroe Falls High School. He went on to attend Walsh University, where he played tight end for four years. He was team captain and helped lead the Cavaliers to the 2001 Mid-States Football Association Mideast Championship, and the school’s first ever berth in the national playoffs. Sean graduated in 2002 from Walsh University with a bachelor’s degree in criminology, and later earned his teaching certification from the University of Akron. Sean went on to be a high school English/Language Arts teacher at Wadsworth High School, and later at Cuyahoga Falls High School.

Sean dedicated his professional career to helping young people both as a teacher for 18 years and a football coach for 22 years. Sean started his coaching career at Stow-Munroe Falls High School and then Wadsworth High School, where he helped the Grizzlies reach the regional finals. From there, he became the head coach at Cuyahoga Falls High School, where he led the Black Tigers for four years. He spent the following years at Medina Buckeye High School, Revere High School and then returned home to Stow-Munroe Falls High School for the past two seasons.

Sean married the love of his life, Emily Howell, on December 20, 2008. Sean and Emily have resided in Stow for the past several years, and share a love for their two dogs, Bernie and Lucky.

Sean is survived by his parents, Thomas and Christine Flaherty; brothers, Michael (Angela) Flaherty, and Brian (Melissa) Flaherty; sisters, Patty Flaherty and Theresa (Josh) Trego; nieces, Kaylie, Emme, Kate, Molly, Abigail, Meyah, Aurie, and goddaughter, Bree; nephews, Danny, Dominic, Luke and godson Ryan; brother-in-law, Adam (Lindsey) Howell.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas, Sr. and Agnes Flaherty, and Roger, Sr. and Pauline Delisle; uncles, Roger Delisle, Jr. and Tim Flaherty.

Friends are invited to Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, OH 44224 for visitation Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 4 to 8 PM.  Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 10 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 3179 Kent Road, Stow 44224.  Burial Silver Springs Cemetery.
