STOW - Steve Streharsky, Sr., 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. He was born on August 19, 1935, in Robertsdale, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, to the late Martin and Anna (Tancik) Streharsky.
As a young man, he attended Robertsdale Schools and participated in high school football, basketball, and baseball. He came to Akron, Ohio in 1952, where he later enlisted in the U.S. Army, spending twenty-one months in Germany as an Artillery-Fire Control Instruments Maintenance and Repairman. After three years of service, he was given an honorable discharge on August 20, 1958, as a Specialist, E-5 Seargent.
On February 7, 1959, after returning from overseas, he married the love of his life, Irene Stefanka. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary a few months before God’s angels carried her home to Heaven in 2014.
In 1962, they moved to Stow, where Steve eventually became a well-loved U.S. letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring after 29 years of service on October 3, 1992.
During their 55 years together, Steve and Irene had four surviving children, whom he dearly loved. He was proud to have been a member of the Stow Jaycees, where he served a term on the board as Vice President of External Affairs, a den leader for Cub Scouts Pack 3175 in Stow, and participated in Project Learn, teaching adults who never learned to read or write. He was also a proud longtime member of the former Church of New Hope, now the Church of New Life. He served on many committees, plus a term on the former New Hope Board.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; infant daughter, Andrea Streharsky, and seven of eight siblings, Martin Streharsky, Paul Streharsky, Anne Brajer, Eva Clippinger, John Streharsky, Robert Streharsky, and Michael Streharsky.
He is survived by his children, Denise (Mark) George, Steve Streharsky, Jr., David (Regina) Streharsky, and Tricia Streharsky; grandchildren, Alexis (Isaac) Machock, Victoria George, Sarah George, and Luke Streharsky; his sister Elizabeth Irwin, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who dearly loved him.
The family would like to thank the excellent people at the Hospice of Summa for their care of Steve and our family as if he were a member of their own families.
