Susan E. Golden

October 13, 1956 — August 21, 2024

STOW - After a ten-year courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer and Parkinson's disease, Susan passed away at home on August 21, 2024, surrounded by her family.

A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Susan was born to Darrell and Corrine Cunningham on October 13, 1956, in Rockford, IL. She lived in Rockford, Salem, OH, Elmhurst, IL, and North Canton, OH, before graduating from the University of Illinois in 1978. She married Thomas Golden in 1978, and they began their 46 year adventure which brought them to Ohio and their wonderful children, Jennifer (David) Miller, Steven (Julia) Golden, and Christopher (Colleen) Golden. Sue and Tom lived in Powell, OH for 30 years before retiring to Stow, OH.

Sue loved being a mom and adored her three children. Early in their lives she was a stay-at-home mom involved with their schools, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and all sorts of extracurricular activities. She was always the proud, enthusiastic fan at numerous soccer games, track meets, and band competitions.

She treasured the yearly North Carolina beach vacations for the week-long fun with all the children and grandchildren. A charter member of All Shepherds Lutheran Church in Lewis Center, she was proud of her Lutheran heritage.

Sue's most rewarding career positions were held at Tyler Run Elementary in the Olentangy Local School district. She retired in 2018 as a school secretary after twenty years of service. It was a job she dearly loved, enjoying every day with all the parents, teachers, and staff and cherishing the children of the school as her own.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws, William and Dorothy Golden, and brother, Richard Cunningham.  She is survived by her husband and children, and grandchildren, Blake, Claire, Grace, Luke, James, Thomas, Elisabeth, Patrick, and Ava.

She is also survived by brother, Robert (Pamela) Cunningham; sister-in-law, Deborah Cunningham, and in-laws, Barbara and Brian Novota, Larry and Shannon Golden, and Richard Golden, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be dearly missed by special friends, Teri Jorwic, Becky Simmons, Sally Manor, Amy Brown, and Kathy Ash.

The family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Grainger and his staff at Columbus Oncology and Hematology Associates for their comfort and care during Sue's decade long battle against cancer.

Services will be held Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 12 noon, at All Shepherds Lutheran Church, 6580 Columbus Pike, Lewis Center, Ohio 43035, where friends may call from 11 AM, until time of service.   A reception at the church will follow services.
