Holy Family Catholic Church - Funeral Mass for Dr. William Louis Padamadan

SILVER LAKE - Dr. William Louis Padamadan, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 18, 2023, wrapped in prayer with his wife, Geeji; daughter, Asha; her husband, Dave Soulsby; daughter, Judy; her husband, Bob Horacek; son-in-law, Philip Brennan, and many of his grandchildren by his side.

William was born on January 6, 1936, in Chettikad, India, to parents, Surphina Louis Pullikathara and Louis Padamadan of Kerala, India. He graduated from Kerala State Medical College in Trivandrum as a medical doctor in 1962.  His intention was to become a cardiologist in the United States and later was honored by his acceptance as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

William married Geeji Theresa Balummel, on January 28, 1963, in a lavish ceremony in Kannamaily, Kerala.  Shortly after marriage and the birth of their two oldest children, Louis and Judy, they adventured to a new life in Chicago, Illinois, with only $100 sewn into Geeji’s sari. They lived there for many years after the birth of their subsequent three children, Sarry, Asha, and Baby Joseph.

Their global adventures continued when he was recruited to set up a world class center for cardiology in Saudi Arabia. William and Geeji were devoted to each other for over 60 years, and they raised their kids and grandkids in the daily practice and commitment to their faith.  Prayers were a constant part of family life, and it would be common to be roped into an impromptu rosary if you stopped by for a visit. Nothing was more important to William than his faith, and despite being burdened with many losses in his life, he believed that life’s hurts and joys were God’s will and that we must accept it all equally, and with gratitude.  His sharp intellect and incredible memory were an asset to him both professionally and personally.  He was the gentlest of gentlemen and a class act.

William was preceded in death by his siblings, Anthony, Benny, and Joseph; his sons, Joseph Padamadan and Dr. Louis Padamadan, and his daughter, Sarry Brennan.  He is survived by his wife Geeji; siblings, Stella, Matthew, and Benny K.; children, Judy Horacek; her husband, Bob Horacek; Asha Soulsby, and her husband, David Soulsby; Sarry’s husband, Philip Brennan, and his grandchildren, Dr. William Padamadan, Joseph and Priya Soulsby, Faith, Joshua, Sarah, Lewis, and Maria Brennan.
